Governor’s Statement of Behaviour Principles 

Our Vision 

At Kennet Valley Primary School, we aim to nurture the whole child; together we will

inspire them to fulfil their academic, social and creative potential. 

The governors at Kennet Valley Primary School agree that at the heart of a successful school

is the belief that high standards of behaviour enable children to make progress in all aspects of their school lives. These principles guide our Behaviour Policy and procedures at Kennet Valley. 

• At Kennet Valley Primary School, we strive to ensure that every child understands they have the right to feel safe, valued and respected. 

• All children, staff and visitors have the right to feel safe at all times at school. 

• Kennet Valley is an inclusive school. All children, staff and visitors are free from any form of discrimination and our policies reflect the duties of the Equality Act 2010. 

• Bullying or harassment of any description is unacceptable, even if it occurs outside of normal school hours. This is explained in full in the school Anti-Bullying Policy. 

• Children have the right to learn free from the disruption of others.  

• The Behaviour Policy is shared with and understood by children, parents and staff. 

• Staff and volunteers set an excellent example to pupils at all times. 

• Our Behaviour Policy promotes pro-social behaviour, positive mental health and good well-being. We believe that everyone should receive praise and be recognised for their achievements.  

• All behaviour is recognised as a form of communication and therefore we aim to respond to this in a way that promotes pro-social feelings. 

• We encourage parents/carers to have a pro-active working relationship with the school to support the needs of their children. 

• Children are helped to take responsibility for and reflect on their actions and choices and their impact on others. 

• We promote a culture where forgiveness and fresh starts enable negative experiences to be quickly left behind. 

• The Exclusions Policy explains that suspensions will only be used as a last resort and outlines the processes involved in suspensions and exclusions. 

• The Governing Board of Kennet Valley Primary School also emphasises that violence, abuse or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated in any circumstances.
