Governor’s Statement of Behaviour Principles

Governor’s Statement of Behaviour Principles

Our Vision

At Kennet Valley Primary School, we aim to nurture the whole child; together we will inspire them to fulfil their academic, social and creative potential.

The governors at Kennet Valley Primary School agree that at the heart of a successful school is the belief that high standards of behaviour enable children to make progress in all aspects of their academic careers.

This statement forms a set of guiding principles that we expect everyone within the school community to adhere to. It links to the policies the school has already adopted on Equality, Behaviour, Inclusion and Safeguarding.

Our principles:

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE AT ALL TIMES

  • All members of the school community have the right to feel safe
  • We expect everyone to respect each other
  • We expect everyone to behave responsibly
  • We will not accept bullying in any form, including if it occurs outside of normal school hours
  • We believe that each individual is an ambassador for the school. We therefore expect them to behave in accordance with the school's Behaviour Policy
  • We believe that everyone in the school community should feel empowered to report any concerns

EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIGH STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOUR

  • We believe that good teaching and learning promotes good behaviour
  • We believe that staff should feel empowered to teach effectively
  • We believe that everyone has the right to learn
  • We believe that everyone can achieve their own personal potential
  • We believe that all adults in school should model good behaviour at all times

EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL EQUAL AND INCLUDED

  • We believe that everyone should be treated equally
  • We believe that everyone should adhere to the school's policies on Behaviour, Anti-Bullying, Inclusion, Safeguarding and whistle-blowing
  • We believe that everyone should feel empowered to promote inclusion and equality within the school community
  • Bullying, harassment or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated

EVERYONE SHOULD RECOGNISE REWARDS AND SANCTIONS

  • We believe that consistent approaches to praise should be known and used throughout the school
  • We believe that everyone should receive positive praise and be recognised for their achievements
  • We believe that everyone should be give opportunities to support each other in their development
  • We believe that our pupils should be able to praise each other
  • We believe that that sanctions should be known and used throughout the school
  • We believe that sanctions for pupils should be differentiated to take their age into account
  • We believe that sanctions should be monitored carefully and recognised formally
  • We believe that exclusion from school is a last resort. Any exclusion should be issued in accordance with guidance from the Local Authority
